Beit T’Shuvah’s Alternative Sentencing department works tirelessly with the criminal justice system to advocate for individuals to receive alternative sentencing at Beit T’Shuvah as opposed to serving jail or prison time. Approximately 25% of residents come to Beit T’Shuvah as a result of crimes related to drug and alcohol abuse. By serving time at Beit T’Shuvah, clients are able to benefit from the BTS treatment program in addition to receiving help with any unresolved legal issues. Upon completion of the program, the majority of our clients are able to rebuild their lives and return to society as responsible and productive adults.

The Alternative Sentencing department also provides visitation for Jewish inmates, offering spiritual guidance, addiction counseling and a connection to Jewish tradition. In addition, we celebrate High Holidays and Passover with inmates at various institutions. The Alternative Sentencing department often serves as a liaison between inmates and their families, assisting both through the often frightening and confusing experience of incarceration.
